Welcome back! Yesterday, I was in town getting my back cracked or as they say in the Chiropractic world, getting an adjustment. Why go to the doctor when you're not sick? Especially one who deals in the area of alternative medicine? This is all a part of getting rewired. In April of 2013, I was building a cement slab to place a couple of just bought rain barrels. After lifting and moving hundreds of pounds of cement, I felt a strong sensation of pain shoot down my leg. I had to ignore the pain and finish the job because any one who deals with cement knows that once it is set there is no changing it. The pain steadily worsened but I continued until I finally finished and went inside, sat down and found I couldn't get off the sofa. Yes, I had a sciatica and a very painful one at that. The Orthopaedic Surgeon X-rayed me to confirm and set up an appointment to see a back surgeon in thirty days. He gave me some meds to control the pain. That is how traditional medicine works. If the body doesn't fix itself soon, then we'll go in and do it ourselves. Sometimes necessary, but not always. I knew there was an underlying reason why I created this sciatica. It wasn't an accident because there are no accidents. This was a learning opportunity. How many would call it that? The first step on rewiring the soul is accepting that all experiences that come into your life are there for a reason. It is up to you whether you want to learn from them and move on or get stuck in the victim, why me, it's not fair syndrome. There are a lot of reasons why we fall on "hard times" like an injury or a sickness. One of the main causes is being out-of-balance. I had my wife wheel me (the sciatica was of such that I could not walk and I was confined to a wheel chair) to the Chiropractor. He looked at my charts, examined me and said I was seriously out of adjustment. My body through neglect became out-of-balance. When I say neglect it is more of missing opportunities to right something in yourself when you feel a pain. I had been feeling a small sensation of pain going down my leg for a while, especially after a long drive, but I would get out of the car and walk it off. No problem I thought, but it was a warning symptom being ignored. I received adjustments from the Chiropractor and for the first time I could actually stand and walk down the hall. Hurray! It seemed my body's skeletal system over time had gotten itself out-of-balance and any strenuous activity would send me a signal. It took many weeks of adjustments before my body would adhere to my bones being snapped back into place, reducing the swelling. I am walking fine now with the pain gone and it erupts at times when I overdue, but nothing compared to that fateful day in April. So what does this all have to do with rewiring the soul? The soul, your soul is intimately connected to your physical body. When your body is out of balance it puts undo strain on your soul. The same as when I drove for miles and felt a small streak of pain run down my leg. It is a warning sign that something isn't exactly right and needs attention. Like Joe and his house, we are going to pay closer attention when we put that step down transformer directly into the physical self and that means taking care of our bodies. This doesn't mean having to get your physical in perfect shape before taking on the rewiring process. It does mean preparing and taking greater care of yourself. Getting enough sleep, eating better (I don't really have to tell you how to do that because I know that each of us, if we listen close enough to our bodies will tell us exactly what it wants.) Laughing and joking more often. Smiling and exercising "oh crap," I heard you out there but I'm not talking about joining a gym. I am talking about parking your car in the far parking lot so you have to walk a little further to work. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator. You didn't think rewiring would be something easy, did you? It doesn't have to be hard, just treat your body smart. I heard Zig Ziglar speak on taking care of your body. He said if you owned a prize race horse, would you keep it up late at nights feeding it booze and sweets, never taking it for a run? Well, isn't your body many times more important than a race horse? Take it at your own pace and I'll see you back here tomorrow, and relax, I don't get another adjustment until two weeks.
